Fuse Instructions

Introduction

The Walkston Pump Controller has been designed and manufactured in Australia to meet worldwide market needs. It includes the following features:

  • 90 – 260 Volts AC Input

  • Over-Voltage, Over-Current, and Short Circuit Protection

  • Inbuilt Power Surge Protection on the Pump Connection

  • Rugged Design

  • Efficient Cooling

Operating Description

The following description of the operation of this unit has been deliberately written for non-technical persons to provide a simple understanding of how the IMARK Pump Controller should be installed and operated.

The Walkston Pump Controller is designed to be used with the supplied DC Pump. The Controller is powered from a standard switched AC wall socket, and produces the necessary 12Vdc power to operate the water pump. Twenty Blue LED’s will be illuminated when the Pump Controller is powered-up and while the uProcessor initialises. As soon as the uProcessor has completed its initialisation, the pump will be activated and 4 Blue LED’s will rotate around the circle. These LED’s will continue rotating while the pump is pumping water. When, and if, the uProcessor detects that either there is no water present to pump, or the pump has emptied the water and is “pumping air”, the uProcessor will switch the pump OFF, and the 4 LED’s will cease rotating and the LED’s will stop at the 3. 6, 9, & 12 o”clock positions.

This Walkston Pump Controller will supply 8.5 Amps of DC supply power at a nominal 12 Vdc to the pump output whenever the operating requirements are met.

Whenever the unit is powered-up from the AC power source, the Controller activates the water pump for approximately 5 seconds to calibrate itself. If the controller determines that a certain head of water is present at the pump, the controller will continue pumping until the head of water is no longer present. Assuming the ac power to the controller is maintained, the controller will activate the water pump repeatedly after a set time period has expired. Whenever the pump is activated, it will continue pumping as described above if a head of water is present. The Green LED will be illuminated whenever the water pump is operating.

Should the water pump fail to pump water when instructed to do so, the Red LED will be illuminated, and (where fitted) sound the Buzzer. e.g. Should a small stone obstruct or prevent the pump impellor from operating, an Alarm will be activated, the Red LED will be illuminated, and (where fitted) the Buzzer will be activated.

The Walkston Pump Controller includes over-current fuse protection on both the AC Input (2.5 Amp Fuse), and on the DC Pump Output (10 Amp Fuse), which will rupture should the current drawn from the unit exceed 10 Amps. Further, the Imark DC PUMP CONTROLLER includes protection against voltage spikes being applied to the DC Output.

Installation

CAUTION: Installation of this IMARK DC PUMP CONTROLLER MUST be done by a competent appropriately qualified tradesman. The complete installation must comply with any local and company regulations.

This equipment operates from the AC Voltage and may be damaged if it is not wired correctly. Damage caused by incorrect wiring is not covered by any warranty.

This Walkston Pump Controller unit requires a flat area of approximately 250mm x 270mm in size providing approx. 50mm of clearance for free air flow around the Pump Controller and for connecting the cables at the bottom of the unit. The Pump Controller may be installed either vertically, or horizontally. Always ensure that the installation is near to a switched AC Power Outlet. This installation location must NOT be in an area that is subject to abnormal heat, directly exposed to heaters, near hot objects, or in areas subject to snow, rain or moisture.

Use the 5 screws provided with the installation kit to secure the Pump Controller at the desired location.

A wiring diagram showing how the Walkston Pump Controller should be installed, is included with this manual and should be followed. Failure to complete the installation as described in the Imark wiring diagram may cause the unit to fail. Damage caused by incorrect installation is not covered by any warranty. Likewise, connecting a water pump, other than the water pump supplied with this Pump Controller may damage the Pump Controller, and may void any warranty.

Bootlace terminals should always be fitted on the DC Cables before fitting the cables to the connecting plug, to avoid “hot spots” and shorts from cable “whiskers”.

Always check the polarity of all cable connections before applying any power to the unit.

Connections

A 6-way connector on the bottom of the Pump Controller is used to connect the Pump Controller unit to the water pump and/or other equipment. Terminals are provided for the Water Pump Output power, a Remote test terminal, and for an optional Remote Alarm Buzzer.

Connections are as follows:

1.    Power Supply Output negative -

2.    12Vdc Supply Output positive +

3.    Optional Buzzer Output negative -

4.    Optional Buzzer Output positive + (Maximum Current 100mA@5Vdc

5.    Remote Pump ON Output signal

6.    Remote Pump ON Return signal

Connect the DC pump wires to Pin # ? (positive) and Pin # ? (negative). Fit the supplied bootlace terminals over the stripped ends of the cable and crimp securely using a bootlace crimping tool. Push the bootlace terminal into the correct pin on the 6 way DC Plug. Locate the 6 way plug correctly on the bottom of the pump controller, and secure the plug housing in position with the supplied screws.
